Tips:Silkscreen is by far the best method of printing large numbers of T-shirts. It's the industry standard for printing on T-shirts. Other methods, such as Direct-to-Garment printing is best left for small runs. One-offs or when the quantity is so low that doesn't warrant the cost of the screens.

Embroidery

Screening Printing

Creating screens pressed up against cloth to place paint onto shirts one color per screen. Pros: cost effective, high quality, professional, durability. This is the most common and widely available method of printing a design onto a t-shirt. The process begins by taking the artwork, separating each color and printing films (basically a photo positive on a clear material such as vellum) for each color. Each film is then used to create or “burn” a silk screen which has been coated with a light-sensitive emulsion. The silk screen is then used to print each color in sequence, until the artwork is reproduced onto the garment.

Heat Press/INKJET/LASER Transfers

Print transparent inks using a computer onto a special piece of paper. Use heat to adhere the ink and paper onto the cloth. Pros: easy to print multi colors and complex designs, does not require different colors to be applied separately, great for small orders, easily customize different shirts.

Vinyl Cutters

Use a machine to cut out designs on special solid color sheets of vinyl. Use heat to adhere cut vinyl to adhere vinyl to paper. Pros: high quality, durability, easily customize different shirts, great for small orders.

Direct to Garment

Print inks directly onto cloth. Pros: reduces steps, patterns doesn't have heavy feel like screen printing, great for small orders, easily customize different shirts. Cons: the cloth is the brightest part of the design: works well on white shirts.

Embroidery

naturally looks better on stronger fabrics.  Examples of fabrics that sew really well are caps, twill, canvas, poly denier nylon (bags and duffels) and most outer wear.  Sewn logos on these fabrics generally don’t need as many underlay fill stitches to maintain the integrity of the design so your stitch counts will be lower.

Coming Soon....Dye Sublimation

is a printing technique that allows for full color, all-over apparel prints. Your artwork is printed onto a sheet of high-release paper and transferred onto your apparel using heat and pressure. Heat converts the solid dye particles into a gas — known as sublimation — and bonds them to the polyester fibers. Unlike screen printing, the dye is absorbed by the fabric for an fantastic soft-to-the-hand feel.
